The Washington Capitals are adorned in red, white and blue every time they take to the ice in front of their home crowd at the Verizon Center. The team has a history that dates back to 1974, when they came on board in the NHL and begin to compete for the Stanley Cup in the Norris Division within the Wales Conference.
The squad first experienced the postseason in the 1982-83 season, and it began a string of 14 years in which they would advance to the final tournament showdown featuring the best teams in all of hockey.
1997-98 was a huge year for the Capitals, as they mowed through the regular-season and their three opponents leading up to the Stanley Cup against the Detroit Red Wings. Unfortunately, they were blanked, leaving a fan base hungry for something huge just four games short of bragging rights forever.
When the NHL realigned the divisions and conferences in recent years, the squad out of the nation’s capital officially became part of the Eastern Conference within the Metropolitan Division. They’re currently on a three-year streak of making the postseason, and they have done so in nine of the last 10 years.
Their success is largely due to center Nicklas Backstrom and Left Wing Alex Ovechkin. The duo that are both currently in the prime of their careers topped the points charts in the 2016-17 regular-season, and they're expected to do big things at least a handful of years into the future.
The Verizon Center continues to be a wonderful epicenter of sporting fun and entertainment. No less than 41 home games are hosted each year, starring the aforementioned and heavily-talented squad. The time to find Verizon Center tickets is now, and all Washington Capitals fans can easily access exactly what they are looking for.
